"The Learning Curve" In this prequel issue of the Slingers series, Ricochet, Hornet, Prodigy and Dusk meet in a quiet corner of the city to home their abilities and train undisturbed. While the training session goes well for the three boys, Dusk has difficulty, particularly with an exercise that involves jumping from one roof to another. Prodigy is adamant that if she won't make the jump she should be removed from the team. Hornet attempts to encourage her, telling her that he and the other two members will turn their backs so that she can make the jump without them watching. The situation goes badly wrong though, as Dusk misses the jump and falls to her death.
